In June 2024, HANS created a new department referred to as LRCAES (Labour Relations Compensation Analysis and Educational Solutions)
Labour Relations is a team of 4 labour lawyers that provide labour law expertise to 93 participating members based on an annual fee structure. This team also includes the support of two administrative assistants. The labour law services includes:
- Support and leading negotiations on behalf of the Employer through 143 collective bargaining processes and essential services processes
- Support and representation on behalf of the Employer through arbitration and f alternative dispute resolution forums for grievance issue resolution and labour board issues that may arise in relation to the Trade Union Act or the Essential Health and Community Services Act.
- Day to day labour law advice
- Labour law education / training for capacity building
- Providing coordination and connections across sector and with government (where appropriate) on labour matters
HANS has been providing labour relations expertise to the sector for over 60 years.
Compensation Analysis is currently comprised of a 3 person team conducting a compensation project through an engagement with DSLTC (Department of Seniors and Long Term Care). HANS will be leveraging the training and experiences through this project to provide job evaluation support to our members at a future time.
Educational Solutions includes:
The CCA (Continuing Care Assistant) Program, DUTJ (Dementia Understanding the Journey) Program, and CCA Registry includes a 12-person team dedicated to:
- Operationalizing CCA Program, including CCA Program Advisory Committee
- CCA Certification
- RPL (Recognized Prior Learning) Program (those with experience wanting to become registered CCAs)
- The CCA Registry – Mandatory list of all CCAs and counterparts working in Continuing Care for Department of Health and wellness
- The DUTJ Program – Foundational certificate to understand the dementia journey
Various Projects currently including:
- The VR (Virtual Reality) Safety Project wherein staff from MPE (Member Partner Engagement) and IT (Information Technology) collaborate on the development of a Virtual Reality based training program designed to advance the skills of front-line care staff from Long Term Care and the Disability Support Program with de-escalation responsive behaviors.
- HANS currently manages HSPNet (Health Sciences Placement Network) a software program used by academic and healthcare facilities (NSH/IWK) to coordinate health education placements. HSPnet-NS staff from MPE are providing leadership to a project exploring expansion options, including Continuing Care.
