How to Properly Clean a Powered Air Mattress

Entrapment

  • If using an air mattress or overlay (powered and non-powered), please consider the risk of entrapment. Due to the compressibility of these mattresses, the recommended testing is not applicable, therefore, there is a risk for entrapment and falls. Consider clinical benefits vs risk and continuously assess for same.
  • “If a powered air mattress is replacing a mattress on a bed system that meets the recommendations in the guidance with the original mattress, the resulting bed system with the new air mattress may now pose a risk of entrapment. When these products are used, Health Canada recommends that steps be taken to ensure that the therapeutic benefit outweighs the risk of entrapment.” (2.2.3 Exclusions)
